Get Involved
Sonoma County's Coastal Cleanup is looking for volunteer coordinators.
Sierra Club Sonoma Group members are once again coordinating the annual Coastal Cleanup in conjunction with the
California Coastal Commission. This year’s Cleanup is being held Saturday, September 21, 2002, from 9:00 am until
noon, followed by a barbeque and events at Doran Beach Park.
The Cleanup has traditionally included picking up and cataloging types of trash found along the county’s coastal
beaches, as well as along the Russian River and a few other waterways. This year, a greater emphasis is being placed
on expanding the Cleanup to additional watersheds and waterways.
We need volunteers to help us clean our Sonoma County beaches and waterways. Listed below are the areas that you can
help us.
Please call Heather Baldini @ (707) 773-1508 (Sonoma County Coordinator).
Cleanup volunteers - Volunteers will be assigned to clean up trash from one of Sonoma County's 20 beaches. They will
separate trash for recycling, record what they find on data cards, and have a great time! Clean up only takes three
hours or less. Preferably, volunteers should call either of the above numbers before the event to be assigned to a
beach, especially groups of six or more. If you are unable to call before the event, please report by 9am to the Salmon Creek
Ranger Station, Hwy. 1 Bodega, California.
Beach captains - captains will coordinate all logistics at their designated site. There are a couple of informative
meetings, before the event, that need to be attended.
